Becoming a Web Celeb

Grade 9's - Read the article that is handed out in class, "Meet Conan O'Brien's Twitter Friend, Sarah Killen:  'My Life Has Already Changed!'".

Put yourself in Sarah's shoes and imagine how sudden fame could change a teen's life - in both positive and negative ways.  What would you do if you were in Sarah's shoes?  Post to the class blog or reflect in a journal response.

  1. If I were in Sarah's shoes I would feel... overwhelmed with all these like because I went from 3 to thousands of likes. I would also feel like I don't deserve these likes because I never did any thing for them and I don't even know thoose followers.

  2. If I was in Sarah's shoes I would go on a campaign to tell young kids that the Internet made me famous but it also can be a lot different when people are getting bullied. One of the positives is you get likes and a negative is you get hate.

  3. If I became internet famous I would reach out to a charity close to my heart and help them. I think if I helped then it could bring attention to the charity! Positives of being internet famous are: getting likes and becoming an inspiration to others.
Negatives are: you get bullied and hate. -Haley☺️🌼

    1. Considering the importance of charity work because of fame is a very proactive positive step.

  4. If i was in sarah's shoes, i would be really proud of myself and and tell people that the internet made me famous and tell them that you could be too. Positive side is you could get likes and followers, at the same time this fame could turn negative when you get hateful comments by people who are jealous of you.

  5. If I was in Sarah shoes I would be overwhelmed with excitement. Positive effects of becoming a celebrity are that companies will give me free stuff, more followers on my social media and il be famous! The negative effects of becoming a celebrity are I will get hate for my " short rise to fame" people would be like "why did you pick her instead of me" stuff like that. Even hate on my photos, articles and more.

  7. If I was Sarah, Sure I would definately feel excited about the sudden fame and popularity. But then again, I hate (this depends on my mood) being the center of attention, or having everyone notice me. The perks about being famous are quite tempting though.. Getting free stuff, more followers on my blog, maybe having another celebrity communicate with me are all great things! But the downside, possibly getting rude or harsh comments towards me, or having TOO much attention are al, things that I never want to happen. - Raquel

  8. If I was in sarah's shoes I would go to high schools and middle schools to tell/teach them about the positve's and negative's about being famous in the internet! I would tell them that being famous is not always awesome and full of positivity. For example one of the positive's of being a famous person is having lots of money and making lots of music video. And one of the negative's is hater, and people cyberbulling you, telling you you're ugly and that you suck at singing or acting....

  9. If I would was Sarah, I would be slightly worried and a little bit freaked out that people are reading everything I tweet, like every post on my Instagram, and it would be bad yet cool to be an online celebrity like Sarah is/was, and for a few reasons,
Good Reasons: You get free stuff from companies, you gain trust from the general public, and you can be known, anywhere you go.
Bad Reasons: Your expectations are higher and people will demand more from you, criticism will happen regardless if you tried your best, and you're prone to being hacked.

  10. If I was in Sarah's shoes I would be overwhelmed with happiness because just like that I became an internet celebrity. Some positives to being an internet celeberity is the number of followers that will come rolling in,You might get sponsored(If your lucky),you'll have interviews, talk shows ect.But with fame comes some consequences there i jealousy on the internet(People saying why do they get to be famous,I am way better then them I deserve to be famous ect.)You might get "Your 5 seconds of fame" Meaning you'll be famous for a short amount of time and lose most of my followers and they start to hate on my pics, article and more

  11. If I were in Sarah's shoes I would feel both confused and overwhelmed by the amount of change that had gone on while I was away. To be seen as Internet famous to a bunch of people that I didn't know, or why someone famous would even choose me to promote or make famous like themselves. Actually I wouldn't even know how to face my own family if that were to happen to me. They would most likely take this to their advantage. Such as use me for free gifts and possibly fame for their own, there is always downsides to winning or becoming famous. And truth be told, I would ignore the internet fame for as long as I could or until it died down. Although I would accept the laptop just like Sarah did. That's most likely the only thing that I would accept from the sudden fame.
