ReplyDeleteArif is a boy who ran to Canada. Arif is a boy who survived, and made a home, and life for himself. Arif even helped a family a child to love and to care for. Tony Gowan is another boy who helped Arif learn he didn't have to run anymore, Arif learns this when he decides to run home with Tony Gowan. His new friend. Tony Gowan earlier resented Arif by assuming Arif's identity. When the coach is talking to Tony after practice with Arif. The coach tells Tony Gowan not the judge anyone and assume there advantages from when Tony had assumed that Arif was Ethiopian, or Kenyan. Tony later learns this when Arif was in pain, but helps Arif. The story tells you to not assume, or judge anyones identity. I know how people can pull themselves down by letting the people who assume their identity rule over them. What good is it in other people to judge another person when they don't even know them, or have come close to them? And how can you underestimate yourself by deeming yourself as someone you would hate? You are your own person, and you are here for a reason. You are free. I think the story teaches us to not have a closed perspective on others.
ReplyDeleteThe Runner is a story of two people coming from different cultures. Arif ,who experienced hardship and tragedy in his family, has to confront another challenge of being accepted in another country. Tony Gowan, on the other hand, had no idea of who Arif was and what brought him to the prairies. Tony saw Arif as a competitor and with all the attention Arif was getting from school, especially the coach, Tony felt envious and threatened that he will not be the popular boy in school anymore. If he only knew what Arif had gone through, there will be no reason for him to be envious.
ReplyDeleteThis story shows the reader an important lesson which is not to judge others because of how they look or what they do. We should not jump into conclusion but find a way to know the person better. There's more beyond looks and what a person can do. I can relate to Arif being an immigrant myself. When I came to Canada, I was both excited and scared. I did not know people in school and I was not sure how they will treat me. Fortunately, I had great teachers and classmates, although there were few who sometimes annoyed me but they didn't bother me that much. It is true that language helps us to communicate, but after reading this story, I think that understanding and compassion are more effective in bringing people of different cultures together.
The runner is a story about 2 boys arif and tony, but tony doesnt like arif at first because tony has always been #1 runner And now that arif has joined the cross country team tony has sunk to #2 runner and tony doesn't like that very much, before tony can even get too know anything about arif he assumes that just because arifs native American that he's got an advantage over him . But as the story progresses tony learns all about arifs life and what he has been through like being a child soldier and how that must've felt and they become very good friends, so the message in this story is dont judge someone before you get to know them because you could write off a very interesting person just because you dont like their outfit and that would be a shame
ReplyDeleteI had an experience like this when I came to this school, it was a very hard thing because I didnt know anyone but I quickly made friends and learned that there was nothing to worry about, but I felt like an outsider and didnt want to talk to anyone because I was afraid of being judged and laughed at but lucky for me everyone here is nice and didnt judge me for anything and I made a lot of friends really fast

The main idea of the story, "The Runner" is that you shouldn't make judgements of assumptions before you get to know someone. In this story a new boy named Arif ha just out ran the track star Tony, which made Tony assume that Arif is only able to beat him because of his background. Tony didnt know anything about Arif, he had no idea that Arif had this horrific past as a child solider, Tony accepts Arifs past and tells him that he is pretty much safe now and has no reason to run anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis story connects to a friend of mine, he had come from a different country and because of his different skin color. people automatically assumed that he would be some fantastic basketball player because of his skin color or where he came from. Period 2, KT
