Question: What will you remember the longest about this
story? Did you find anything humorous in
the story? Which part was the saddest? The most surprising? The most thought-provoking? Did you learn
anything from the book – about the Depression, about California, about ranch
life, etc?
I will remember Then George and Lennie there down by the river side .
ReplyDeleteThe saddest part i thought was then Lennie "killed' the puppy
What I remember the longest about this story Of Mice & Men is about Lennie wanting tend the rabbits. Lennie talks about it everytime he and George talks about their farm/ranch dream. He brings it up to everyone who he talks to, even to Curley's wife. What i found that was the most surprising is when George killed Lennie at the end of the book. i found it surprising because I thought it was going to be Curley who's killing Lennie. George killed Lennie because he didn't want Lennie to be locked up in a cage and suffer from dehydration and hunger.
ReplyDeleteThe part of this story that I will remember for the longest is the part where George caps Lennie by the river. I think ill remember this part the longest is because it made me sad. I think that the saddest part of the book was when Lennie broke that girl. I think it was the saddest because he took a life by accident.
ReplyDeleteThe part I found humorous in the story of mice and men was the kind of thr character of lennie. Not that it's funny about him but how I imagined him, I kinda got to see him as like george forman the boxer. In mice and men the most surprising part is when george kills lennie. I didnt expect him to kill lennie himself, I thought curly or slim would have got to him before george could. I also thought that maybe slim wouldnt even let george leave the ranch so he wouldnt have to see it happen.-sean jourdain
ReplyDeleteThe part of that is the saddest is when George had to kill Lennie. That was a sad part because George said before he killed him think of the "fad of the lan" it was really sad. I will remember this book by is how best friends will stick together and never be apart
ReplyDeleteThe saddest part of the story for me is when George had to shoot Lennie but first had to make Lennie happy by telling him about how they will 'live off the fatta land'. What I will remember most about this story is how George, Lennie and Candy talked about getting their own ranch and getting people to work for them. How they would have their own land and each other their own room. How Lennie gets to tend the rabbits if he doesn't get into trouble.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that I will remember about this story the longest, is Lennie dying at the Salinas River where they began at. This reason will be important to me in the story because George and Lennie were really close but Lennie just wasn't smart enough to continue trying to live with George and messing with his problems. Another reason is because the setting starts at the same place where it ended and that's where Lennie dies. The most surprising part of the story is when Lennie started to get mad at Curley's wife and started to shake her to death. This was surprising to me because i didn't think Lennie could have been that strong to actually shake her and actually killed her afterwards. I actually thought that she would be still alive but it ended worse.

ReplyDeletei would remember the longest in the story is that Lennie likes soft furry things and George will say to him to throw it away but he does not want to because he loves them and want to pet them all day and night. Then the swamper was sad because he has to kill his dog and that is sad i had to put my anties dog down that reminds me of the story. i leaned that is not nice to call people black and don't let them play in any games that the have or let them in the bunk houses.
ReplyDeleteSomething that I will remember the longest about this story is when George kills Lennie. I will remember this part because they were the main characters in this book, and one of them dies, they also had that dream about owning that land together but one of them ends up died. I am pretty that would be a part that everyone would remember this part of the book if they have read it. Something that I found sad about the book is when Carlson killed Candys dog. I found this part to be a sad part because Candy and that dog were kind of like best friends and he had that dog ever since it was a puppy. I found that part pretty sad.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the funniest part of the story is near the end, when Curley's wife was wheeling Lennie and then he ended up killing her. LOL. I think this is funny because Curley's wife kinda deserved it because she's a "tart".
ReplyDeleteThe part that really GOT to me is when George had the courage and the guts to actually kill Lennie... that part made me very emotional because they've been together all this time and George just ends up killing him. They could have just run away and started over!
The most surprising moment in the story was when Lennie killed curly's wife, i mean i kinda knew something bad was going to happen maybe between them but i never really thought about Lennie killing her, as George said in the book Lennie didn't do it out of meanness he just got scared and held on,really he just wanted her to stop. I learned that even if bad stuff can happen you can still get your dream going and don't let a bad thing make you want to give up, if you just keep on saying to your self i can do it, i think you can really do it.
ReplyDeletethe thing that i will remember the most after reading this story is how George found the courage to kill Lennie ,this is very surprising because Lennie and George were good friends and spent a lot of time together.i learnt that during the Depression people who were of colour were treated as 2nd class citizens and people traveled a lot of miles to find work

DeleteWhat I'll remember the longest is Lennie and George's dream of "livin' off the fatta the lan" because they talked about it repeatedly in the novel and it was what Lennie was thinking about at the end of the story before he died. The saddest part of the story for me is when Carlson convinced Candy to let him kill his dog. Candy was an old man and his dog was the only one who was with him since he was young and he just let some man kill him. Candy regretted it and he should've done it himself because the dog was his responsibility and he should've taken care of it
ReplyDeleteThe saddest part of the story for me was when George shot Lennie, because he had to... But I know that George has his reason for doing that. And I still admire George for making Lennie happy before he shot him or before he killed him. And I have learned to the Mice and Men book is we don't need to be a better person for having a real friend, because if that friend is really a friend to you, he/she will accept you for being an imperfect person, you just need to be yourself, always... and I also learned from this book is sometimes we should do the things that is right, even though we don't want to, but because we have to.
ReplyDeletethe saddest part of the story is when George shoot Lennie in the head because Lennie thought George not mad at him.
ReplyDeletethe most surprising is when George shoot Lennie because I thought he is a good friend to Lennie.
I think what I will remember the longest about this story was the roller coaster like relationship of Lennie and George with each other. This is because their relationship was not like any others, they have their ups and downs and they have a unique relationship that will definitely amaze every individual. You can see in the story that they really care for one another, despite of their differences, they managed to stay with each other. All of these proved that even though they have encountered many problems that test their relationship throughout their journey, they never left each other’s side. It shows that if you really care for someone, you will be there for them through thick and thin and you’d only want what the best for that person.
ReplyDeleteI think that the saddest part of the story was when George killed Lennie. I find this the saddest part because I know that George was not wholeheartedly into it, he lost his friend, the one who he was with for a really long time. I know that he only did this because he wanted Lennie to die happily by making him think about their dream. He didn’t want Lennie to suffer because he knows that if Curley was to see him face to face, there’s a great chance that he would make Lennie go through an enormous amount of pain. There are a lot of possibilities that Curley might do to Lennie, he could punish him severely or he could kill him in a cruel way. As a result of these possibilities, George took it upon himself to go ahead and kill Lennie even though he doesn’t want to because that was best for him, he wouldn’t have to go through a ton of pain and suffering. When George killed Lennie, their whole journey together flashed back and this also meant that if George ever achieved their dream, Lennie wouldn’t be there to enjoy it anymore, which is also sad as they have worked or planned it together and knowing that one of them wouldn’t be able to see it, and knowing that the person who ended that person’s life was the one who cared for him the most was really heartbreaking.
In the story of “Of Mice and Men” the ending was the saddest part. George decided to kill Lennie to end all his mischief. Lennie was full of ignorance until the end. He didn't know that behind George’s smile was a plan to kill him. It was sad to think that he was just dreaming happily without him knowing that George is about to end his life. Also, the fact that George is about to kill him with his own hands was sad. It was heartbreaking to think that he had to kill the person who is like a brother to him. They’ve been together through ups and downs. It must've been hard for him to kill Lennie since he was the one who's always taking care of him.
ReplyDeleteThe part I will remember the most in the story is when George and Lennie are camping out. It was somewhere in the beginning of the story. They were both dreaming about having their own farm where Lennie will raise his own rabbits. This part is really nice. Two friends who are like brothers were dreaming and planning about their future happily.
The thing i will remember the most is George shooting Lennie
ReplyDeletebecause Lennie dies but he dies happy and painless.
This is also the most saddest part because Lennie dies.
I don't have a surprising part in the book.
The saddest part was when george decided to shoot lennie. This was the saddest part for me as it came as a surprise because Inever expected george to end his life. Considering the fact that he has been there for lennie ever since, it must've been really hard for him to do that as the only way for lennie to not suffer any excruciating pain and to die happily was to kill him himself which was extremely heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteBy reading the story i learned the essence of friendship, that no matter how hard the obstacles may seem, you'll do everything to keep the person that you care about the most, safe. I also learned that helping a friend might also mean sacrificing something or choosing to do something that might not be right for the eyes of others for the benefit of the other.
ReplyDeleteYou've all noted some very interesting points about your saddest and most surprising parts of the novel. I appreciate how heartfelt many of your comments are - they show alot of empathy for Lennie and George. I think Isabel's comment about learning "...the essence of friendship"...is quite true for many of you. I enjoyed reading Of Mice and Men with you this spring. Consider reading more of Steinbeck's novels...he writes very strong stories with complex characters and difficult conflicts.
