George, Lennie and Candy all share the dream of owning their own farm. For each one, however the dream, is a little different. Explain why having their own farm (or ranch) is attractive to each character: (See p. 56 - 61). Explain in PEACE format.
Lennie would like to have a farm for different reasons then George and Candy. Some of those reasons are that I think he would want to have lots of soft bunnies that he could pet and take care of. my second reason is that he would want to grow alfalfa for his bunnies so they would have something to eat. My final reason is that he says he wants to live off of the land. in conclusion I think that if all of this stuff actually happens Lennie would live happily eve after.
George,Lennie and Candy all share the dream of owning their own farm.George's reason to appealing to this idea is the idea that he gets to tend to the rabbits, which George has always wanted to do, he also wants to "An live off the fatta the lan", which just makes it more appealing to him.
George wants to buy his own farm to live off because he can provide Lennie, Candy, and himself their own food. They would raise pigs and kill them then build a smoke house to cook them in. George would also make his own garden to grow tomatoes and other vegetables. George wants his own farm so he doesn't have to run around working on other peoples ranches. He'd have his own house and his own room instead of sharing a room with other people. George wants his own farm so he can get people to work on it, and if they didn't do a good job he'll say "Get the hell out." p.58. In order to get his farm George needs to save a lot of money but working on the ranch he is currently at.
Candy shares the same dream as Lennie and George but he has a different reason why. One of Candy's reasons are, He is getting old and he knows he will be fired soon, he doesn't want to be living on the road with no money. He also doesn't have an hand on one arm, which makes it very hard for him to find work. If he can't find a another job he will have nothing to live off of. Candy just wants a place to live and work for the rest of his days, He knows he cant do much but he wants to be able to work intill he dies. He tells George and Lennie that he can tend the chickens and hoe the garden and do simple tasks, He also tells them that he doesn't have any family left so that indicates he doesn't have any one to stay with. Which is another reason why he wants to live at the farm. In p.60 when he says "maybe I give you guys some money and You'll yet me hoe the garden." This proves he wants to live on the farm and help the guys out by giving them cash and doing simple tasks. I cant really connect to this because i don't have a dream of living off the land, I do have a dream of getting a house and all that when im older but not a farm. In a way its kinda alike but not really. -- Sean Jourdain
I think your connection piece is very relevant, especially if you explored why you'd like your own house...Review proper quoting format. Well developed response.
Candy has a dream of owning a farm different from George and Lennie. His reasons of owning a farm is because he is old and he only has one hand, so may not be so useful in awhile that means their probably going to can him soon. In p.g 60 Candy says “Maybe if I give you guys money you’ll let me hoe in the garden.” This shows that he wants to keep working even though he is kind of getting not useful. I can kind of connect to this because I had a dream of getting a cool pair of shoes I really liked and had a whole bunch of reasons to why I had to have them. These are the reasons why I think Candy wants to own a farm
The dream that the guys are having is a good one but I find Lennie dream more interesting. Lennie is like a kid he is so curious he like to touch thing he wants to have a good life with George . Lennie dream for the ranch/farm is to tend the rabbits and to feed them. For myself I like rabbits they are so cool and they are fluffy and Lennie wants to get a little pup too. Lennie wants to get the rabbits and pups because they are so soft and fluffy.
Lennie wants to own his own farm but for different reasons than George and Candy. He want s to own it because then he could have his own rabbits. He likes to pet them because they are furry. He can grow vegetables to feed them on the farm. This is why he wants his own farm.
George, Lennie and Candy all share the dream of owning their own farm but what makes Candy's dream different than theirs is that he wants somewhere to go to. The idea of living on a ranch with Lennie and George appealed to him because he knows that his job as a swamper is coming to an end. Candy is getting old and has lost one of his hands, this makes it hard for him to do jobs that can support him in the future. On page 59 Candy says, "I aint got no relatives nor nothing". This indicates that he does not have anyone or anywhere to go to. Whereas living with Lennie and George gives him the opportunity to have a house, have someone to take care of him and get small little jobs around the farm for extra cash.
1. a) They are headed towards a ranch b) They are going there to get a job 2) They had to leave weed because Lennie touched a girls and the girl screamed. 3) George gets mad at at Lennie when Lennie wants ketchup with his beans when they dont have any. 5) They are different because they want their own ranch and they always stick together. 6) See #5 7) George tells Lennie to go hide in the bush 8) George wishes he could get rid of Lennie but he made a promise to Linnie's aunt that he would take care of Lennie
Lennie is really simple and he likes petting soft things and he loves rabbits. He is simple so he needs someone to look after him (George). Lennie is pretty strong and does not know his own strength. Lennie is also really big and he is always getting himself into trouble.
George is dreaming about how he wants to make a stake and live in a farm where he and Lennie can be free and live without anyone messing around with them.
The first example of how George explains how he wants his place to be and look like is when he says, “Well, its ten acres,” p.56. My second example is when George explains what kinds of food they are going to have. As George says, “Got a little win’mill. Got a little shack on it, an’ a chicken run. Got a kitchen, orchard, cherries, apples, peaches, cots, nuts, got a few berries. They’s a place for alfalfa and plenty water to flood it.” p.57.
My reasons for why George’s dream is different than the others is because when he explains how he can grow all kinds of foods and he will have a massive land of farming, i think that he approaches this dream more realistically and serious rather than Lennie’s dream of having a farm of rabbits and Candy trying to help out with them but he can’t really do much with only one hand.
George, Lennie and Candy all share the dream of owning their own farm. For each one, however the dream, is a little different. Candy’s dream of having his own farm sets him apart from Lennie and George as he's in a different situation. The reasons why he dreams of having his own farm are because of his age, his future and his well-being as he wants to be a part of George’s and Lennie’s dream. Candy dreams of having his own farm because he’s already considering his age, he’s not young anymore and he’s also not as strong as the other employees as well so this causes him to fear for his future in the ranch. As we know, employers would like to keep and hire strong and young people to get the job done faster and better. This causes Candy to envision his life outside of the ranch. The second reason is his future because as he is growing old, his body also weakens. If he gets fired, he would have no money to support himself as it would be extremely difficult for him to get another job because of his age and because of his physical disability of not having another hand for him to be able to work more efficiently. He would also have to wander around with no money, no place to stay and no company because as he said in the book on page 59 "I got no relatives nor nothing". The last reason is his well-being because as he said in the book on page 59 “S'pose I went in with you guys. Tha's three hundred an' fifty bucks I'd put in". This indicates that he wants to be a part of George’s and Lennie’s dream of having their own farm because he's willing to give them his hard-earned money just so they could fulfill their dream. With this, I strongly think that he will also get to benefit from this in the long run as George and Lennie could work together to help him, to provide some of the basic necessities that he needs, to take care of him and to be with him so that he wouldn't be alone. I could connect Candy's dream into any other human being's dream particularly elderly people's dream because like him who fears of not having anybody by his side and who feels like a useless human being, some elderly people also feels like that even though they really aren't so I suppose that they also dream of having somewhere to live where they could be supported by someone and where they could be with someone who would make them feel like they're still as important as they were when they were still at their younger years. This would also be the dream of all of us as well because we wouldn't want to wander around helplessly and not have somebody by our side when we get older because no human being dreams of being alone. Therefore, the reasons why Candy dreams of having his own farm are because of his age, his future and his well-being.

Due to these reasons Candy would like to tag along with George and Lennie. On page 59 Candy said, “S’pose I went in with you guys. Tha’s three hundred an’ fifty bucks I’d put in.” This proves that Candy is willing to contribute some of his own money to help Lennie and George achieve their dream. This will be an advantage to Candy because living with George and Lennie would give him the chance to have a house to live in and to gain some money by helping them in the farm. Candy’s dream is like me wanting to own a house of my own to manage and take care of when I grew up. It is also where I’ll live with my family. As for him, his family will be George and Lennie. For all these reasons, Candy’s dream is simply to work in their own ranch and to live the rest of his life with Lennie and George.
